Stonegrass
formed in August 2002 from the ashes of two former bands, Eesifreek
(Jamie: Voice & James: Guitar)
& Throat Oyster (Clint: Drums & Gidner:
Bass).
After a couple low key gigs at the end of 2002, they visited the studio in early 2003 to record what would become their debut, "The Stonegrass EP".
Four tracks were recorded in their rehearsal rooms over one weekend. The results of these sessions can be heard here.
As Winter turned into Spring, and Stonegrass began gigging relentlessly all over the UK, word began spreading. One reviewer called their stage show “a raw-edged musical explosion”, and comments on their recorded work was equally positive;

• “Don't be surprised if Stonegrass become a regular on MTV” – Black Velvet
Soon, the band were taking in such esteemed venues as Hertfordshire’s legendary Knebworth Park, and playing to audiences ranging from small rooms to massive outdoor festivals.
As the year drew to an end, Stonegrass began work on "The ReWrite The Words" EP (“In a word, Class” – Live Circuit), their second release.
The year ended with acoustic appearances at London’s City Showcase Festival which saw Oxford Street stop in its’ tracks and sing back to them, a wonderful experience.
2004 - and a co-headline slot on the Radio 1 / NME backed Transit Tour took the band further afield while positive reviews of their latest recordings began coming in.
Large amounts of live work remained a staple part of the band’s itinerary as they hit the university circuit and shared the stage with old friends Fuzzy Lumpkins, upcoming Scottish signees Hiding Place at Islington’s Carling Academy, as well as a couple of dates with NME backed Glastonbury veterans, The Subways.
Dates around the capital and beyond followed, and summer festivals soon after, as did an invitation to return for City Showcase 2004.
New material was written, rehearsed & recorded over the summer, with live favourite "Wither" receiving special treatment by a local artist for promotional packaging.
However, as the year closed, vocalist Jamie announced his decision to leave the band.
As a result, Stonegrass' New Years Eve gig proved to be the last. Leaving the stage just moments before midnight, the band said goodbye to a packed house of party-going music lovers.
There's not many better ways to go out.
